Giving Back – Ramadan 2018

Ramadan is finally upon us (we’ve got our countdown started already!) and with it, countless initiatives to give back to the community we live in. Like previous years, I’ll be making a list of all the initiatives I come across so everyone has a handy database to refer to throughout the month. And as always, let me know if there’s any amazing event happening that you’d like to highlight!

Release a Prisoner

Pakistan Association in Dubai has teamed up with Emirates Red Crescent and has launched the Release a Prisoner Campaign. Funds collected will go to helping release prisoners who cannot pay their fines or are in need of tickets to go back home.

Mawada Project

Mawada Project is bringing back its popular Ramadan Giving campaigns and it’s not too late to get involved. You can help to create handmade dolls that will be gifted to refugees or underprivileged children or you can choose to participate in their hospital visits, making gifts and visiting patients.

A Touch of Love

OMO Arabia is back this year with their Touch of Love campaign. Clothes can be dropped off at certain City Centre, Lulu and Panda outlets. OMO will take it from there to ensure that the clothes are distributed to people in need.

Tree of Life

Arabian Centre
has brought back it’s Tree of Life. For every donation made, whether its clothes, books, money or even toys, a lamp will be lit on the tree and all donations will be handed over to Red Crescent for distribution in refugee camps across Somalia, Yemen and Syria.

Ramadan Together with Careem and DM

Careem has partnered with Dubai Municipality to help make your donations much easier. It’s as simple as booking the “Food Bank” car. They will come to your location, pick up your food donations and stock the closest fridge! And all for free!

Give a Good Example This Ramadan

City Centres across the emirates and Emirates Red Crescent have geared up this Ramadan for the “Give a Good Example This Ramadan” campaign and will be collecting your donations of toys, books and clothes.

Magical Wishing Well

Dubai Festival City Mall together with Disney will be hosting the Magical Wishing Well this Ramadan where you can send greetings to your loved ones around the world. For every greeting shared, AED 1 will be donated to Al Jalila Foundation.

Dubai Cares Back to School

Not sure how to contribute this Ramadan? How about volunteering your time? Dubai Cares is looking for 2000 volunteers from May 26-29 to help assemble 50000 school kits for children affected by the Syrian crisis in Jordan. You can sign up on the Volunteers website.

Haji Sahab Biryani Packs

This year Haji Sahab has teamed up with Al Jalila Foundation as a Basma partner and will be donating Biryani Packs for iftar for only AED 10 (or you could choose to buy the packs for yourself! Their biryani is realllllllly good!). For each biryani pack that’s sold, they will be donating AED 1 to Al Jalila Foundation to help children with life threatening illnesses.

Ramadan Sharing Fridges

It’s back! Following on the success of 2017, Ramadan Sharing Fridges is now a licensed initiative in Dubai under the patronage of Emirates Red Crescent. So if you’re looking to adopt a fridge, or simply looking to help make sure the fridges don’t go empty, you can drop an email to the team or check out their Facebook page for more details!
